AmeriCorps Clearwater is a part of the AmeriCorps family of national service programs often described as the "domestic Peace Corps." Federally funded through Volunteer Florida, the Governor's Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, the program begins its 15th year of operation in 2010. AmeriCorps Clearwater aims to foster citizen responsibility, build neighborhood unity, and provide educational opportunities.

AmeriCorps Clearwater members (program participants) work hand-in-hand with community policing officers, school resource officers, crime prevention officers and staff of local community service agencies to help prevent/reduce crime and increase public safety in targeted neighborhoods. Many AmeriCorps Clearwater members are criminal justice degree-seeking students at the Southeastern Public Safety Institute of St. Petersburg College.
