The Florida Police Chief's Education and Research Foundation, Inc., a non-profit arm of the Florida Police Chief's Association, has selected Clearwater Police Explorer Christopher Cornelius as a recipient of a 2000 Police Explorer Scholarship. Chris was selected following a comprehensive review process including an assessment of his overall commitment to his community, his law enforcement agency, and his Police Explorer Post. He is one of only four Police Explorers throughout the state to be selected for a scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship is earmarked for tuition and books at the college of his choice.

Chris is a Lieutenant in Explorer Post 31 sponsored by the Clearwater Police Department. He joined the Explorer Post in 1996, has held the positions of corporal and sergeant and was a recipient of the 1999 Achievement Award in March of this year. Christopher has also been actively involved in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. He plans to attend St. Petersburg Junior College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and will work towards a degree in criminology.
