ANTHONY HOLLOWAY PROMOTED TO POLICE CAPTAIN
2 LIEUTENANTS, 2 SERGEANTS, CORPORAL ALSO NAMED

Clearwater Police Lieutenant Anthony Holloway, a 17-year veteran of the Clearwater Police Department, was promoted to the rank of Police Captain at a department staff meeting this afternoon, Chief Sid Klein announced. Additional department promotions and assignments were also announced today.

Captain Holloway's effective date-of-rank is June 14, when he assumes command of the Patrol Division, which includes all uniformed Patrol Officers and operations citywide.

Captain Holloway joined the Clearwater Police Department in 1986. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Business Management) from Eckerd College, was graduated from the University of Phoenix with an MBA, and is an Adjunct Professor at Florida Metropolitan University, teaching business and international management.

During his career with the Clearwater Police Department, Captain Holloway served as a Patrol Officer, a Community Policing specialist, an undercover Vice & Narcotics Detective, a Patrol Sergeant, a Detective Sergeant (Economic Crimes Unit), as the Support Services Assistant Division Commander, and as the District II Patrol Commander.

Until his promotion to Captain, Lieutenant Holloway was the Commander of all Patrol Officers, projects, programs and operations on the west side of Clearwater (Patrol District II stretches from Highland Avenue westward to the Intracoastal Waterway).

Captain Holloway, who grew up in the Tampa Bay area, attended both Hillsborough Community College and St. Petersburg Junior College, and has been trained in career-related specialties ranging from Narcotics Interdiction and Enforcement to Code Enforcement and Instructor Techniques.

Captain Holloway was presented the Chief's Unit Citation and was a recipient of the Clearwater Bar Association's Allen Moore Memorial Gold Badge Award, both in recognition of his exceptional work with the North Greenwood Neighborhood Community Policing Patrol Team in 1993. In 1989 he was celebrated with the Joseph F. Cornelius Family Foundation's Outstanding Police Officer of the Year Award, the department's highest honor.

Captain Holloway will assume command of the Patrol Division tomorrow.

Additional promotions and assignments were announced today, as well:

Sergeant Ron Sudler was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant, and will assume command of the Office of Professional Standards (Internal Affairs), where he's been assigned as an investigator since December 2000.

Lieutenant Sudler - who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology (Summa cum Laude) from St, Leo College - joined the Clearwater Police Department in 1982.

During his career, he served as a Patrol Officer, a Community Policing Specialist, as both a Burglary and Robbery/Homicide Detective, as a Field Training Officer, a Patrol Sergeant, an Internal Affairs Investigator, a SWAT Hostage Negotiator and as the Assistant Team Commander of the Emergency Response Team.

Lieutenant Sudler is trained in specialty fields ranging from Crime Analysis and Police Discipline to Chemical Munitions, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Civil Disorder, and was awarded the department's Medal of Excellence and the Chief's Unit Citation.

Sergeant George Koder was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant, and becomes commander of Patrol District II.

Lieutenant Koder - a former U.S. Marine who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Safety Management at Eckerd College - has been a Clearwater Police Officer since 1991. He's served as a Patrol Officer, a Community Policing Specialist, an Intelligence Detective, a Patrol Sergeant, a Detective Supervisor (Economic Crimes) and as the department's Public Information Officer.

Lieutenant Koder's career-related schooling includes Intelligence, Financial Records Analysis, Money Laundering and Managing Criminal Investigative Units. He has been an Instructor (firearms, driving, report writing), was named the Elks' Club Police Officer of the Year in 2002 and was the recipient - four times - of a Chief's Unit Citation.

Officer Todd Johnson was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant, and will assume the duties of a Patrol Supervisor.

Sergeant Johnson, a Clearwater Police Officer since 1994, earned an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Technology from St. Petersburg College. During his career as a Patrol Officer, he has served as a Field Training Officer and a Sex Crimes Investigator, and served in all three Patrol Districts.

Sergeant Johnson is schooled in Gang Investigations, Juvenile Sex Offenders, Child Abuse Investigations and domestic violence.

Corporal Steven Baginski was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant, and will assume the duties of a Patrol Supervisor.

Sergeant Baginski joined the Clearwater Police Department in 1995 and has served as a Patrol Officer, a Community Policing Specialist, a Field Training Officer and a Patrol Corporal.

Sergeant Baginski - a member of the SWAT Team - is schooled in Edged Weapons/Knife Defense, Instructor Techniques and is a certified weapons armorer.

And Officer Dirk Curls was given the Patrol assignment of Police Corporal, and will assume his supervisor assistance duties effective tomorrow.
