100
ADDITIONAL ‘WEE CARE’ BEARS
TO PATROL WITH CLEARWATER POLICE
The
Kiwanis Club of Greater Clearwater will donate an additional
100 "Wee Care" bears to the Clearwater Police
Department Wednesday morning, Chief Sid Klein announced.
The
"Wee Care" bears are foot-tall Teddy bears Police
Officers give to injured or traumatized children they encounter
at work. According to Louis Corona, the department’s Victim
Assistant, the "Wee Care" bears have a remarkably
calming effect on children.
"It’s
amazing to see how these bears divert a frightened child’s
attention from all the chaos," Corona said. "They
find the bear comforting and calming, and are especially
intrigued when they’re told that it’s theirs to keep."
The
Clearwater Police Department has been providing "Wee
Care" bears to young victims for some years, and the
Kiwanis Club is replenishing the stock of bears. Club members
will donate the 100 new bears to Louis Corona at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, July 26, at the 645 Pierce Street Police Headquarters.
