Starting Salary for Sworn Officer

Step increases every year. For more information, please contact the Recruiting Division. The following is based on a bi-weekly 84-hour pay period. 

  • Step 1 Includes (starting officer) $72,231.65
  • Step 2 Includes (2-4 years of prior) $75,843.11
  • Step 3 Includes (4-6 years of prior) $79,635.41
  • Max out pay for an officer 2024-2025 year is $106,922.74 (84-hour pay period)

Salary Incentive for Associate Degree $30 a month / Bachelors Degree $80 a month

  • Sworn employees are granted 10 paid holidays a year, four floating holidays and earn two weeks of vacation time after the first year, three weeks after six years, and four weeks after 15 years of service. In addition, they receive 12 days of earned sick time annually. Vacation time and sick time are capped at 320 and 1,560 hours, respectively.
  • Patrol officers work 12-hour shifts with every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. This is an 84-hour bi-weekly pay period. Detectives work four 10-hour shifts. A shift differential is paid at 10 percent for the evening shift.
  • Assignment pay is 5 percent for corporal, detective and K-9.
  • Health insurance is 100 percent paid for employees, and a portion paid for dependents. A Life Scan Wellness Exam is also included.
  • All uniforms and equipment are provided.
  • Take-home car program.
  • Sworn employees are members of a non-contributory supplemental pension and have a 10 percent contribution to their standard pension.
  • Employees are vested in city retirement after 10 years of service and are eligible to retire once they reach 20 years of service, or 55 years of age with at least 10 years of service.
  • 24/7 onsite gym.
  • We also offer in-house jiujitsu classes two times a week, during which you can go on-duty or flex your schedule.
